Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disorder of the central nervous system of unknown cause in which the body's immune system attacks myelin in the brain and spinal cord (1). Once diagnosed with MS, symptoms are unpredictable and can vary from person to person and over time in the same individual. Many symptoms can be managed by medications; however, a healthy lifestyle and diet can maximize a person's sense of well-being and prevent a rapid decline in nutritional status during episodes of relapse.
